The mobile operators "Kyivstar" and Vodafone Ukraine have reached an agreement to exchange radio frequencies in the 2100 MHz range to enhance the efficiency of their 4G network operations. This decision was approved during a meeting of the National Commission for the Regulation of Electronic Communications (NCEC) on January 15.
According to the agreement, "Kyivstar" will transfer a portion of its licenses for radio frequency usage to Vodafone Ukraine in 24 regions, while Vodafone Ukraine will, in turn, transfer its frequencies to "Kyivstar" in 27 regions.
Through this exchange, the operators will be able to eliminate spectrum fragmentation and create continuous blocks of frequencies. This will result in higher mobile internet speeds for users of the 4G network.
As noted by Irina Chernyavskaya, head of the NCEC's radio frequency spectrum department, this type of exchange between operators is being conducted for the first time in Ukraine.
It is worth reminding that on November 19, 2024, the operators won bids for licenses to operate in the 2100, 2300, and 2600 MHz ranges. At that time, the president of "Kyivstar," Alexander Komarov, emphasized that the consolidation of frequencies in the 2100 MHz range would help the company effectively utilize resources for the development of its 4G network.
