The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, stated that the extension of sanctions against Russia is possible only if Ukraine meets a number of conditions. During a broadcast on Kossuth Radio, he emphasized that Ukraine must resume gas transit, halt attacks on the "Turkish Stream," and cease threatening oil transit.
Orban noted that Hungary supports sanctions aimed at assisting Ukraine; however, it expects actions from Kyiv that would mitigate economic losses for Central European countries, including Hungary. He stressed that if Ukraine seeks continued European support in the form of sanctions against Russia, it must ensure the stability of energy supplies to the region.
Previously, Orban criticized the EU's sanctions regime, claiming it harms the European economy. In December, he expressed his intention to wait for Donald Trump's inauguration before making a decision on extending sanctions against Russia.
These statements by Orban highlight his position aimed at protecting Hungary's national interests in the context of energy security and economic relations with Ukraine and Russia.
It was previously reported that the actual consumer inflation in December 2024 exceeded the forecast of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), and prices are expected to continue rising.
