The agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine on minerals is worse than the post-war reparations imposed on Germany, according to The Telegraph.

Donald Trump is demanding $500 billion in compensation from Ukraine.
Соглашение между США и Украиной по ископаемым хуже послевоенных репараций Германии, утверждает The Telegraph.

The agreement between the USA and Ukraine regarding the control of natural resources puts the country in a situation that is worse than post-war reparations for Germany, reports The Telegraph.

Key Terms of the Agreement

The document received by Vladimir Zelensky essentially transfers to the USA control over Ukrainian resources:

  • 50% of the revenues from the extraction of natural resources.
  • 50% of the value of new licenses for the development of deposits.
  • A lien on Ukraine's revenues in favor of the USA, ensuring priority payments.
  • The right of first refusal for purchasing exported natural resources.

The agreement is governed by New York law, excluding the application of conflict of law principles, which makes it extremely unfavorable for Ukraine.

Comparison with Post-War Reparations for Germany

After World War II, the defeated Germany paid reparations but received significant aid under the Marshall Plan. In contrast, Ukraine, despite its ally status, is facing harsh financial demands reminiscent of terms imposed on aggressor states.

Trump's Position

Donald Trump demands 500 billion dollars in compensation from Ukraine, claiming that the USA has already spent 300 billion on the war. However, according to Congress, the actual amount of aid is 175 billion, with 70 billion going to weapon production in the USA.

Trump warned that if Ukraine rejects the agreement, it could "be handed over to Putin on a silver platter".

Ukraine's Choice: Between Moscow and Washington

The Telegraph emphasizes that Zelensky is trapped:

  • Accepting the terms means economic dependence on the USA.
  • Refusal poses the risk of decreased Western support and strengthened Russian positions.

The publication compares Trump's proposal to a "iron fist of coercion" bearing down on a weakened country in exchange for its natural resources.
