Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that support for Ukraine will continue, but emphasized that the funds provided must be secured.
Speaking at a press conference at the White House on February 12, Trump noted that assistance is necessary, as otherwise "Putin would think he won." He also mentioned upcoming negotiations with the President of Ukraine and the Russian leader, indicating that the first meeting is likely to take place in Saudi Arabia.
On the conditions of aid
Trump criticized the previous administration for the "senseless" transfer of funds to Kyiv and stated that the U.S. will now demand guarantees of repayment.
According to him, Washington has already provided $350 billion to Ukraine. However, according to the Pentagon, military aid has amounted to $66.5 billion since Joe Biden took office.
European support
Trump also mentioned that European countries have allocated $100 billion to Ukraine in loans. However, according to Pentagon data, assistance provided through the "Ramstein" format has exceeded $126 billion since April 2022.
It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump has shown interest in acquiring rare earth metals from Ukraine in exchange for continued support in the war against Russia. The strategic importance of these resources was also mentioned in one of the points of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's "victory plan."
