The U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that Ukraine should "tone down its rhetoric" and sign a mineral agreement with the United States. In a comment to Fox News, he noted that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance was "very disappointed" after the Munich Security Conference, as was U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who visited Kyiv to finalize the agreement.
Waltz emphasized that this agreement offers Ukraine an "incredible and historic opportunity" to invest in its economy, utilize natural resources, and become a partner with the U.S. in the future. He stated that this is the best security guarantee for Ukraine, more significant than "another shipment of ammunition."
The advisor does not understand why Ukraine is resisting and continues to criticize the Trump administration.
"This is simply unacceptable. Ukrainians need to soften their tone, look at the situation with clear eyes, and sign the agreement," he said.
Waltz also mentioned that contacts between the U.S. and Ukraine are ongoing, and President Trump has reaffirmed his intention to revive the mineral agreement.
Recall that U.S. President Donald Trump expressed interest in obtaining rare earth metals from Ukraine in exchange for continued support in the war with Russia. The strategic importance of these resources was also mentioned in one of the points of President Volodymyr Zelensky's "victory plan."
