The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide a record amount of €480 million for the development projects in Ukraine's railway sector and distributed generation. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Community and Territory Development.
"We are launching two major and critically important projects together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development," commented Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery Oleksii Kuleba.
Under the signed loan agreements backed by state guarantees, Ukrzaliznytsia will receive a loan of up to €300 million for the purchase of dual-power electric locomotives.
This project will be co-financed with a parallel investment grant of $190 million as part of the RELINC project "Restoration of Core Logistics Infrastructure and Network Communication," managed by the World Bank.
The second agreement involves the construction of gas-powered electricity generation with a capacity of up to 270 MW in close proximity to key railway traction substations. It is expected that this generation will partially cover the needs of Ukrzaliznytsia and other critical infrastructure facilities. For this purpose, the EBRD will allocate a loan of €180 million.
