"An agency can't be saved": Musk announced he is working on shutting down USAID.

Billionaire Elon Musk, who is leading President Donald Trump's initiative to reduce the federal government, announced that efforts to close the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) are ongoing.
"Маск объявил о своих усилиях по закрытию USAID, заявив, что агентство невозможно спасти."

This information comes from the Reuters agency.

Musk discussed the activities of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) during a conversation on the social media platform X, which he owns.

The discussion, which included former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Republican senators Joni Ernst and Mike Lee, began with Musk stating that he was working on shutting down USAID.

"This agency is beyond saving," Musk said, adding that President Trump agrees on the need for its elimination.

Meanwhile, most USAID employees were instructed on Monday not to report to the headquarters in Washington and to work remotely, according to an email reviewed by Reuters. The message stated: "Further instructions will be provided later."

On Sunday, Reuters reported that the Trump administration removed two senior officials from USAID's security service after they attempted to prevent DOGE representatives from entering restricted areas of the building, according to three sources.

Later on Sunday, Trump told reporters that USAID was "run by radical fanatics," adding: "We are firing them and then we will make a decision."
