At the end of 2024, Ukraine is experiencing limited electricity blackout schedules.
Будут ли у украинцев электричество на Новый год: прогнозы.

Ukrainian energy workers are making significant efforts to ensure that the country's residents have electricity during the holiday season, despite ongoing attacks from Russia.

Serhiy Nahorniak, a member of Parliament and a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy Issues, reported that despite 14 massive missile strikes, Ukraine has managed to avoid a complete blackout in homes, even on the eve of the New Year.

According to him, by the end of 2024, Ukraine is operating under limited electricity outage schedules, which indicates the flexibility and resilience of the energy system. In the event of infrastructure damage, nuclear power plants implement preventive measures by unloading energy units and quickly restoring their operations to maintain balance in the energy system.

However, Nahorniak noted that frontline regions remain at risk, particularly cities like Kharkiv and Sumy, which are located close to the front line and often become targets of Russian shelling.

Despite all the challenges, the deputy is confident that thanks to the experience and preparedness of Ukrainian energy workers, as well as support from international partners, Ukraine will manage to provide stable electricity supply during the holiday period.

Reference information about electricity outage schedules

All consumers in each region, except for critical infrastructure facilities, are divided into 6 queues (groups) and 12 subgroups.

  • One queue of outages: the limitation lasts 4 hours per day.
  • Two queues: outages total 8 hours per day.
  • Three queues: limitations increase to 12 hours per day.
  • Four queues: outages exceed 12 hours per day, affecting up to 70% of consumers in the region.

Each queue is also divided into sub-queues, allowing only half of the consumers within a single group to be limited.

Important: The application of outage schedules based on the number of queues affects the volumes and duration of electricity supply, in order to evenly distribute the load among regions.
