The Chairman of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Argentine diplomat Rafael Mariano Grossi, has arrived in Ukraine for a working visit, during which he plans to visit the "Kyiv" electrical substation. Earlier, Grossi announced a high-level meeting in Kyiv, where participants are expected to discuss the IAEA's efforts to prevent a nuclear accident in Ukraine. This information was shared in a statement by the head of the organization on his page on platform X.

He notes that this is already his 11th visit to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. Grossi's previous trips were also aimed at assessing the potential threats arising from hostilities and regular attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukraine's energy facilities.

"I am heading to the Kyiv substation, which is critically important for the safety of Ukraine's nuclear energy, to assess the damages and help prevent a nuclear accident," Grossi stated.

It is worth mentioning that IAEA representatives had already visited the "Kyiv" substation earlier, in September 2024. During that visit to the substation, the IAEA team observed damages sustained by the facility earlier but also noted that after repairs, the substation had returned to full capacity.

"Assessing the condition of substations is a vital part of our work in Ukraine, as the safety of nuclear power plants depends on stable connectivity to the grid," Grossi said at that time.

Additionally, earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgy Tikhiy publicly denied rumors about the creation of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. He added that the country closely cooperates with the IAEA and is "fully transparent for monitoring." These statements were made on November 14, 2024.
