Kyiv and the Kyiv region are expected to face significant blackouts due to worsening weather conditions, while the rolling blackout schedules across other parts of Ukraine will depend on the operation of energy facilities in those regions. This was reported by energy expert and Chairman of the Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy, Stanislav Ignatiev, during a broadcast on "Kyiv 24".
According to him, the blackout schedules in Kyiv and the Kyiv region are expected to be 6 hours on and 4 hours off.
"Currently, there is a shortage of electricity in the city of Kyiv. We are without power for 4 hours and then have it for 6. This is considered a 'light' schedule according to many experts' forecasts. Moreover, starting Wednesday, we may see a deterioration in the situation as the operation of solar generation will decrease due to a powerful anticyclone moving into Ukraine, bringing rain and snow, and temperatures will drop below zero. Therefore, in Kyiv and the surrounding region, stricter schedules of 4 hours on and 4 hours off, or even 6 hours on and 4 hours off, are possible," Stanislav Ignatiev informed.
He added that the situation with rolling blackouts will vary in different regions, as it depends on the extent of damage to energy facilities and the region's ability to provide electricity independently.
"For instance, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, we have a schedule of 2 hours on and 4 hours off, as power supply from the Burshtyn station has been partially restored, and there are enough small solar stations to meet local needs. In the city of Khmelnytskyi, they are following a 4-hour blackout schedule. Ukraine is gradually transitioning to a so-called 'island' mode of electricity distribution — the levels of electricity supply are not functioning. Each region must ensure its own electricity supply," the expert stated.
Recall that on November 11, "Ukrenergo" announced that emergency power outages will occur in the Kyiv, Sumy, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Donetsk, and Kharkiv regions, as well as in Kyiv.
