"People can't cope": Electricity rates are set to increase, says MP (video).

Deputy Vladimir Moroz stated that initially, the price for regular consumers may rise to five hryvnias, but this is just the first phase. According to him, such changes will lead to an increase in prices across the board, including for food products.

In Ukraine, there may be an increase in electricity tariffs for both households and businesses. This was stated on October 15 during the broadcast of the "Evening.LIVE" program by member of parliament and member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, head of the subcommittee on electricity and electricity transportation, Volodymyr Moroz.

He pointed out that Ukrainians do not have enough funds to pay for all utility services. Additionally, if the electricity tariff rises, the price of "everything" will increase.

"First of all, for bread. These are the products that our people are currently purchasing," — the MP explained.

However, according to him, European partners advocate for prices to reflect the value of the goods. They argue that to improve electricity production, tariffs need to be raised.

Moroz indicated that the price of electricity could increase:

  • up to 6-7 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour for households;
  • up to 11-12 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour for enterprises.

Moreover, the tariff is likely to be raised in several phases.

"This is a very high price. It is discussed that it will be gradual — five, maybe more," — the deputy clarified.

He reminded that the decision on tariffs is made by the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Public Utilities. The NEURC regulates electricity prices.

"I think that today this is very criminal because people cannot withstand it," — added Moroz.

Recall that on October 15, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that residential buildings are more than 99% ready for the heating season. Schools, kindergartens, and hospitals are also nearly all prepared for winter.

Ukrainians can access subsidies to cover utility expenses. Applications for receiving them can be submitted until November 30.
