On the front lines, a soldier, poet, and songwriter, Mikhail Mikus, who served in the 5th Separate Assault Brigade, lost his life. He hailed from Ternopil and took up arms from the very first days of the full-scale invasion in 2022 to defend his homeland. He served under the call sign Sky. This was reported by the volunteer project "Nedopysani" on their page in X.
The circumstances and exact location of the writer's death remain unclear. However, it is reported that he died while performing a combat assignment.
According to Ternopil media, the man "was a true patriot, nationalist, and conscientious citizen." With such qualities, he could not stand idly by while defending his homeland, which is why he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he was assigned to serve in the 5th Separate Assault Brigade. It is known that this brigade fought in Bakhmut and its surroundings.
Mikhail Mikus was an educated and cultured individual, having graduated from the Faculty of Philology and Journalism at Ternopil National Pedagogical University named after Hnatyuk. After university, he pursued a creative career.
In civilian life, Mikhail was a writer and poet, crafting poems that later became the basis for songs. His name is well-known among the residents of Ternopil: Mikhail Mikus frequently performed concerts in his hometown.
Even while serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mikhail continued his creative work. In 2023, a collection of his poems titled "The Universe of a Thousand Dreams" was published by a local publishing house.
"From birth to death, we are surrounded by problems,
but the collar of slavery is definitely not for me.
If I climbed to the pedestal, I won't come down from it
During childhood and youth — iron was forged...", — an excerpt from one of Mikus's poems.
Friends and colleagues are remembering Mikhail Mikus on social media, sharing his poems and songs.
"Sky is now in the sky!" — writes his friend Marianna Yanchuk on Facebook.
It should be noted that Ukrainian artists have been actively joining the ranks of defense since the early days of the full-scale invasion. Unfortunately, news of their deaths often reaches us from the front lines.
Additionally, one of the founders of the Kyiv "Plast," Konstantin Zhuk, also lost his life in the war. The man sustained serious injuries while covering the retreat of his comrades in Volchansk. This became known on January 22.
