In the city of Kovel in the Volyn region, a fight broke out involving law enforcement officers and local residents. During the altercation, one of the "jokers" stole the keys from a patrol police vehicle and then fled the scene. During the detention, other citizens joined the scuffle, attempting to rescue those being apprehended. Information about a gunshot that occurred during the fight in Kovel and the reasons behind the incident is discussed in a note on the Facebook page of the Patrol Police of the Volyn region.
According to law enforcement, the incident involved several civilians and drivers of two different vehicles. Initially, around 15:00 on November 24, the patrol police stopped a Jeep for violating traffic rules. While drafting the report, an unknown good Samaritan intervened, defending the offenders. At one point, a bystander snatched the keys from the patrol vehicle and ran away. To retrieve the keys, the officers pursued him, leading to the first scuffle, which was recorded by a body camera. During the altercation, the patrol officer fired a shot into the air to call for backup, while the man who stole the keys jumped into another vehicle, a Volkswagen, and drove off, as stated in the note from the Patrol Police of the Volyn region.
Later, two men who were in the Volkswagen were apprehended at a gas station, according to law enforcement reports. Another confrontation occurred during their arrest, but the citizens were ultimately subdued using physical force. They are suspected of committing offenses under Part 2 of Article 345 — for threats and violence against a law enforcement officer. If found guilty, they could face a sentence of up to five years in prison.
