During a nighttime strike by the Russian Armed Forces on Kyiv, the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine sustained damage. Glass shards filled the offices where people could have been working had the attack occurred on a weekday. The consequences of the Russian strike were reported by Rada speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk on his Facebook page.
Stefanchuk described the strike as a "cynical attack on the center of Kyiv." The official confirmed that the enemy targeted the government quarter. Among other buildings, the Verkhovna Rada was affected, where members of parliament worked — committees held meetings here, and parliamentary units were located, he wrote. The politician also assured that maximum efforts are being made to "eliminate the consequences of the attack and ensure the uninterrupted operation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and its bodies."
3 4In a couple of other photos, the windows of one of the buildings are visible, facing a neighboring destroyed structure with yellow plaster. The shockwave shattered the windows in the offices: sharp glass fragments covered the desks and floor. Additionally, in some places, the frames were blown out.
5 6Furthermore, there is damage to the windows facing another building, as shown in Stefanchuk's photos. The damage is similar: broken glass, torn blinds, and curtains.
7 8It is noted that on the night of January 1, the Russian Armed Forces launched a swarm of Shahed-136 kamikaze drones as well as aerial missiles, confirmed by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result of the Russian strike, two people were killed — a couple living in the center of Kyiv. The deceased were Doctor of Biological Sciences Olesya Sokur and neurobiologist, Doctor of Sciences Igor Zima. Among the buildings damaged by the Russian shelling were the building of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine and the House of the Soviet People's Commissariat of the Ukrainian SSR from 1941, as well as the National Bank buildings.
Additionally, Member of Parliament Maryana Bezuhla reported that the Russian "Shaheds" nearly hit the president's office building. The politician accused the command of allegedly weakening mobile fire groups that hunt enemy drones by sending them to the front.
We remind you that on January 2, Ukrainian military and radio engineering specialist Sergey "Flash" Beskrestnov reported on the innovation that allowed the "Shaheds" to reach the government quarter.
