Law enforcement officials in Nikopol apprehended a woman suspected of robbing a pensioner near a church. This was reported by "Vідомо" referencing the National Police of Ukraine in Dnipropetrovsk region.
The incident occurred on October 15 at around 12 PM on Shatokhina Street in the city of Pokrov.
The 75-year-old victim stated that an unfamiliar woman approached her and offered to tell her fortune, to which she replied that she had no money. Following this, the perpetrator removed the victim's gold earrings from her ears. When asked not to do this and to return the jewelry, the thief did not respond and left.
The victim provided law enforcement with a detailed description of the stranger and the stolen earrings. Within a few hours, the police located and detained the suspect.
She turned out to be a 42-year-old local resident with multiple prior convictions for property crimes. The woman was arrested in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The gold items were pawned at a local pawn shop. The police returned the jewelry to its rightful owner.
On October 16, the investigative departments of the police informed the detainee of the suspicion for committing a criminal offense under part 4 of Article 186 (robbery committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for her.
