Ukrainian border guards prevented a Polish citizen from illegally exporting lemurs and exotic birds from Ukraine at the "Hrushev" crossing point in Lviv region. The Polish national lacked the necessary documents for the animals and attempted to bribe officials to allow him and the animals to pass into Poland. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
According to the agency's press service, during the inspection of a Mercedes van at the crossing point, the border guards from the 7th Carpathian detachment sent the vehicle for a detailed inspection. Among the cargo, they discovered Madagascar lemurs and exotic birds, for which the vehicle owner had no transportation documents.
To "resolve the situation," the driver offered a bribe of $1,900 and 100 euros.
"The serviceman warned the individual about the criminal liability for such an offer and refused the unlawful benefit," the State Border Guard Service reported.
Officers of the internal and personal security of the 7th border detachment reported this case to the National Police of Ukraine. The criminal offense under Article 369 of the Criminal Code "Offering or providing an unlawful benefit to an official" can be punished by a fine ranging from five hundred to seven hundred and fifty tax-free minimum incomes of citizens or by restriction or deprivation of liberty for a term of two to four years.
Recall that on January 5, a video circulated online showing a group of men escaping from Ukraine on skis through a snowy forest. The State Border Guard Service has not yet commented on the video.
On January 2, the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that border guards found hidden gold worth 6 million UAH in a hidden compartment of one of the vehicles at the "Nyzhankovychy" crossing point in Lviv region.
