Slovakia has warned Ukraine that it may block its accession to the EU.

The statement from the Hlas party includes a warning regarding a potential reevaluation of their stance on Ukraine's Eurointegration.
Словакия предупредила Украину о возможности блокировки ее вступления в Европейский Союз.

The Slovak political party Hlas, part of the ruling coalition, has sharply criticized Ukraine's decision to halt the transit of Russian gas through its territory. The party described this move as a "breach of trust" and called for the issue to be discussed at the upcoming coalition council.

In a statement, Hlas, founded by the current President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, included a threat to reconsider its stance on Ukraine's European integration.

Main complaints from Hlas:

Economic losses for Slovakia:

  • Loss of revenue from gas transit to other countries.
  • Increased costs for purchasing gas from alternative suppliers.
  • Rising inflation and prices for food products, such as baked goods.

Political outrage:

  • The party believes that Ukraine's actions "betray the trust and assistance" that Slovakia had previously provided, including military, political, and humanitarian support.

Threat to Ukraine's European integration:

  • Hlas stated that such behavior from Ukraine contradicts the principles of solidarity and partnership that are fundamental to the EU accession process.

Hlas emphasizes the necessity of resolving the conflict through negotiations involving Ukraine, Slovakia, and the European Commission. The party calls for avoiding unilateral actions that could undermine trust between the countries.

Hlas declared that Slovakia's further support for Ukraine depends on Kyiv's willingness to demonstrate respect and behave as a reliable partner.
