Electricity rates in Ukraine: when can we expect a price increase?

What are the reasons for the increase in rates?
Тарифы на электроэнергию в Украине: когда ожидать роста цен?

At the beginning of summer 2025, a significant increase in electricity tariffs for the population is anticipated in Ukraine. According to forecasts, the cost will rise from the current 4.32 UAH to 6.7 UAH per 1 kWh. This was reported by the head of the Union of Consumers of Utility Services of Ukraine, Oleg Popenko, on Facebook.

Reasons for the tariff increase

The expert noted that the Ministry of Energy and NAEC "Energoatom" support the transition to market prices for the population, which take into account the costs of electricity production.

According to Popenko, starting from June 1, 2025, the tariff will be 6.68 UAH per 1 kWh, and over the next two to three years, it could rise to 9 UAH.

"Last year, the market price was 6.5−7 UAH per kWh, but today this figure has already exceeded 9 UAH. Therefore, starting June 1, the electricity tariff will likely be raised to 6.68 UAH. Within 2−3 years, the tariff will increase to 9 UAH," the expert predicts.

Structure of the market price of electricity

At the beginning of 2025, the market price of electricity approached 10 UAH per 1 kWh. It includes:

  • 5.95 UAH — price on the day-ahead market;
  • 1.7 UAH — costs for electricity transmission;
  • 2.35 UAH — value-added tax (VAT).

The increase in electricity costs is linked to the need to cover expenses related to production, transmission, and taxation. These changes are likely to significantly impact household expenses and the overall purchasing power of the population.
