The distribution of the "thousand from Zelensky" will not yield positive effects for the economy, and the parliament lacks the authority to prohibit the allocation of these funds at the president's initiative. This opinion was expressed by the secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development, Yaroslav Rushchishin, as reported by "Radio Liberty".
Rushchishin believes that Volodymyr Zelensky's initiative may have come as a surprise to the government. He claims that the funds allocated for this program could have been directed towards investments, which would yield a real economic impact, or could have provided targeted assistance to low-income citizens rather than distributing it to all residents of the country.
In his view, handing out money will not support the economy and may lead to social consequences. Rushchishin labeled this decision as "absurd".
He also added that soldiers send money to their families, who are expected to support the economy."We are getting people accustomed to receiving money for free, without earning it, and this is very harmful. How do we explain to our partners, who help finance our military needs, that we lack funds, yet we are giving away money?" – he noted.
However, the government is confident that these payments will assist small and medium-sized enterprises in Ukraine.
