Recently, there have been several attacks on world leaders, making discussions about a potential assassination attempt on Putin a serious matter. In the United States, both the current and former presidents have not denied the statement made by journalist Tucker Carlson, who mentioned the possibility of such an attempt. The speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, wrote on his Telegram channel about the threat to global security and the risk of nuclear war.
Volodin initially recalled a series of attacks on global politicians. His note references the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and then-presidential candidate in the U.S. Donald Trump. Based on this, the Russian official suggested taking Carlson's claims of a planned assassination attempt on Russian President Vladimir Putin seriously. According to Volodin, even discussing this topic is "criminal." Ultimately, the high-ranking Russian official warned that such conversations are allegedly a "direct path to nuclear war."
In addition to the nuclear threats, Volodin noted that neither the 46th U.S. President Joe Biden nor the 47th President Donald Trump has responded to Carlson's statement. Meanwhile, in his opinion, investigators should address these discussions, as Putin is "an asset for Russia" and is doing everything for "achieving peace." He also suggested "holding American officials accountable."
Representatives of Biden and Carlson, as well as a spokesperson for Putin, did not respond to Carlson's statement.
It is noteworthy that Carlson's speculation about an assassination attempt on Putin was made two days ago, on January 27. During a conversation with journalist Matt Taibbi, he claimed that the then U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was allegedly behind the discussions of an assassination. According to him, the official was attempting to initiate a "real war" and was planning the killing of the Kremlin leader. However, Carlson did not explain where he obtained information about the assassination and did not prove that he was telling the truth.
Meanwhile, in February 2024, the American journalist visited Moscow and conducted an interview with Vladimir Putin. During the conversation, Putin gave a lengthy pseudo-historical overview, explaining the right of Russians to occupy Ukraine.
