As of November 1, 2024, over 27 thousand foreign students are studying in Ukraine. The highest number of international students is enrolled at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, with medicine being the most sought-after field of study. This data was published by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in collaboration with the Ukrainian State Center for International Education.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, as of November 1, there are 27,226 international students enrolled in Ukrainian universities. On May 1, 2024, their number was 31,727, with 7,194 of them starting their studies in 2024.
1China ranks first among the countries of origin for foreign applicants, with 10,735 Chinese students studying at Ukrainian higher education institutions. Azerbaijan comes in second with 4,308 students, while 1,802 applicants have arrived from India to study in Ukraine.
The 2024 statistics from the Ministry of Education and Science also indicate that there are 514 students from the Russian Federation enrolled in Ukrainian universities.
2The Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design has accepted the most international students for study, totaling 1,797. The second place is held by the Kharkiv National Economic University named after Simon Kuznets with 1,756 students. Third place goes to the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" with 1,130 foreign students.
3 4The most popular field among foreign applicants is medicine, chosen by 4,488 individuals. Management is the second most popular, with 3,841 foreign students. Economics ranks third, with 1,127 students. Law, pharmacy, and musical arts are also popular fields of study.
5From January 1 to October 31, 2024, there were 8,500 invitations for foreigners registered at Ukrainian universities. Last year, there were 14,300, in 2022 there were 17,800, and before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, there were 65,300.
On November 14, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytsky discussed a draft law requiring budget-funded students to work off their free education.
