A shipment of 810 kg of fresh zucchini from Turkey was destroyed in Boryspil, Kyiv region. This was reported by the State Consumer Protection Service.
As noted, during state control measures, the specified product was found to have excessive levels of nitrates.
In accordance with legal requirements, the shipment was detained for destruction.
The State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection explains that food products deemed dangerous are those that are unsuitable for consumption and harmful to health. Specifically, low-quality and dangerous products are those that do not comply with mandatory requirements of the current regulatory acts and safety standards in Ukraine for human life and health, property, and the environment.
In early February 2023, the State Consumer Protection Service reported that dangerous nuts that can cause liver cancer had entered Ukraine. A harmful toxin was found in the product.
Prior to this, a batch of cookies made in Romania by Ro Star SA was discovered in Ukraine. The product, exported from Poland, contained excessively high levels of acrylamide.
Even earlier, chlorpyrifos, used for protecting plants from harmful insects, was found in coffee imported from Germany. Consuming such coffee can even lead to a coma.
