A new CEO has been appointed at Ukroboronprom: here’s what we know about him.

More than 20 candidates applied for the position, with three making it to the shortlist.

The Supervisory Board of the Joint Stock Company "Ukrainian Defense Industry" has appointed Oleg Hulyak as the General Director of the enterprise. This was reported by the press service of "Ukroboronprom".

It is noted that the appointment process included the search and evaluation of candidates conducted by the Ukrainian office of Odgers Berndtson, an international company specializing in executive search.

It is reported that more than 20 candidates applied for the position, with three making it to the shortlist. The Supervisory Board conducted final interviews with them, which also involved representatives from the embassies of the USA, the UK, and Germany.

"Oleg Hulyak is an experienced leader, well acquainted with the pressing needs of the army. He faces key tasks: increasing production volumes, completing the reform of the state sector of the defense-industrial complex, and establishing an effective anti-corruption system," said the Minister of Strategic Industries, Herman Smetanin, who previously led "Ukroboronprom".

"It is important to us that the head of the largest defense company is someone with experience in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and in the logistics management of the Armed Forces. He is a professional who understands what is needed for Ukraine's defense forces. Oleg Hulyak is a leader capable of showing initiative, taking responsibility, and achieving results. We are pleased to appoint him as General Director. We thank Odgers Berndtson for their quality candidate selection, and all participants for their involvement in the competition," noted the chairman of the Supervisory Board of "Ukroboronprom," David Lomjaria.

Background:

Oleg Hulyak was born in Mykolaiv region. He has served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 1993. At the beginning of his military career, he was the deputy commander of a reconnaissance company in an air assault division.

From 2004 to 2005, he participated in peacekeeping operations as part of the separate mechanized battalion of the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent in the Republic of Iraq, and also served as the commander of the 95th separate air assault brigade in Zhytomyr.

He held the position of deputy commander of the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces.

Hulyak also served as the head of the Military Academy in the city of Odesa. In September 2021, the then Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, appointed Hulyak as the commander of Logistics Forces.

Since July 1, 2024, Hulyak had been working as an advisor to the General Director of "Ukroboronprom" on military cooperation. He made significant efforts to establish contacts between the joint-stock company and the defense forces.
