Three corps have been deployed along the front line, which will consist of three separate brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the 12th and 13th National Guard brigades, stated military journalist Yuri Butusov. The corps that will be established within the structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be formed based on the best brigades. One of the first to undergo reform is the 3rd Assault Brigade (3 OShBr) of the Armed Forces, which will serve as the foundation for the third corps. Military journalist and chief editor of "Censor.NET" Yuriy Butusov discussed the details of the changes in the Defense Forces on his YouTube channel.

Butusov stated that the command will be "testing" the formation of corps—a new structural unit of the Ukrainian army. The first to be deployed will be the 3rd corps, built on the base of the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces. The new unit will be led by the current brigade commander, Colonel Andriy Biletsky, who will soon oversee "a specific set of troops."

"According to our sources, the first corps to be deployed in the Ground Forces will be the third corps, formed on the basis of the third assault brigade," Butusov said.

Reform in the Armed Forces of Ukraine — Details

The journalist also explained other details regarding the corps in the Armed Forces. According to him, one corps will consist of four to five brigades and additional separate units. Each corps will be responsible for a 150 km section of the front line.

There is information about two other corps. One of them will be based on the 30th Marine Brigade. According to Butusov, this unit currently performs "administrative functions." Additionally, the 92nd Assault Brigade is expected to serve as the foundation for another corps, he mentioned.

Reforms will also occur in the National Guard, the journalist announced. Two corps will be formed within the National Guard:

  • one corps will be based on the 12th NG Brigade "Azov," with the commander appointed as brigade commander, Colonel Denys Prokopenko, with the call sign "Radish";
  • the second will be based on the 13th NG Brigade "Charter," with the current brigade commander, Colonel Igor Obolensky, taking command.

"Now brigade commanders will be clearly integrated into the structure of corps commanders, and the corps commander will be the person responsible for their large section of the front," Butusov summarized the changes in the management of the Defense Forces.

On the social media pages of the 3 OShBr, there are no comments regarding the corps and the reform process. In a note from February 4, Ukrainians are invited to join the unit, but no other statements are available. Denys Prokopenko has not yet written about the changes in the Defense Forces. There is no information on the "Charter" Facebook page.

It is noteworthy that in November 2024, the media outlet "Suspilne," citing its own sources, reported on upcoming reforms in the Defense Forces. Journalists' sources revealed that corps will be established to "save human and material resources."

On January 4, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, officially announced the deployment of corps, which will be responsible for specific sections of the front.

We remind you that on February 3, the deputy commander of the 3 OShBr, Maksym Zhorin, spoke about the transition of the army to corps.
