Near the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II in Kyiv, a memorial event titled "Light the Flame" is taking place to mark 1000 days of war in Ukraine. Participants of the event lit 1000 candles at the foot of the "Motherland" monument. This was reported by the museum.
"This is a memorial event for those who gave their lives for Ukraine, and a gesture of gratitude to all who continue to fight," the museum's website states.
The idea for the event commemorating 1000 days of war in Ukraine came from the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mierina, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, and Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, who called on Latvians to honor the memory of those who perished as a result of the Russian invasion with a moment of silence and to light candles on November 19. The museum supported this idea and joined in.
The "Light the Flame" event for the 1000 days of war in Ukraine began at 5:00 PM at the foot of the "Motherland" sculpture, followed by a joint prayer for Ukraine. The shield of the "Motherland" was illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
"Each candle lit serves as a testament to our respect for all those who, at the cost of their lives, fight for each of our dawns, and the joint prayer led by the military chaplain will strengthen our faith in the coming of peace and our Victory," the museum emphasized.
We remind you that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, published a video dedicated to the 1000 days of the full-scale invasion of Russia. He also reminded that at least 13,574 civilians have fallen victim to the full-scale invasion of the Russian Armed Forces. During this time, Ukraine and Russia conducted 58 prisoner exchanges, through which 3,767 Ukrainians returned home.
