Autumn 2024 has "delighted" us with a surge in egg prices. Maxim Hopka, an analyst from the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB), explained the reasons for the price hike in a comment to "Facts ICTV" on November 26 explained.
One reason for the price increase is the rise in production costs. Prices for feed wheat, corn, and sunflower meal have gone up, which has led to more expensive feed and increased costs for maintaining hens. Additionally, electricity prices have also risen, and consumption is only increasing with the onset of colder weather. Birds require a comfortable environment, including lighting due to the shorter daylight hours.
"Moreover, we have a seasonal factor; in particular, the supply from households decreases, which remains consistently high from May to September," the expert noted.
Industrial egg production in Ukraine has returned to levels seen before the full-scale war, but demand and expenses influence pricing. From January to September this year, production increased by 2.1%. Enterprises boosted their output by 7.4%, while households saw a decrease of 3%.
Hopka explained that during the summer, egg prices are traditionally lower due to higher supply and the need to sell products quickly. However, prices rise in the autumn.
"By the end of the year, prices could increase by another 10%," the analyst predicted.
He clarified that costs will continue to rise due to additional expenses for heating and lighting. However, by spring, egg prices should stabilize as supply increases.
We remind you that MP Alexey Goncharenko has stated that the Cabinet is introducing a payment of 6,500 hryvnias. Several categories of Ukrainians will be eligible for this financial aid.
