Lured by HIMARS: Why Russian forces are losing soldiers near Kursk, according to Forbes.

Под HIMARS: почему российские войска теряют солдат в Курске — Forbes.

Russian troops came under the strike of HIMARS MLRS as they recklessly rushed to catch up with Ukrainian forces that were allegedly "retreating." To execute a successful operation, the Ukrainian Armed Forces not only deceived the Russians but also demonstrated excellent coordination among various units while exploiting the mistakes made by the Russian command. Forbes reported on the reasons behind the significant enemy losses in the Kursk region.

The article described the special operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region and explained the reasons behind the successful engagement of the 255th Air Assault Brigade, during which the Russian Armed Forces could have lost a substantial number of fighters. A Forbes analyst examined footage from near Kursk captured by a Ukrainian drone, revealing that the clash occurred near the village of Sverdlikov.

The Russian Armed Forces had long attempted to advance near this settlement to drive out the Ukrainians. It is likely that on Thursday, January 23, the Ukrainian fighters pretended to retreat. The Russians "believed" they would regain control over this point and immediately surged forward, wrote the Forbes analyst. Units composed of citizens from Russia and North Korea found themselves within the striking range of HIMARS. M30/31 missiles promptly targeted them, scattering "dozens of grenade-sized bombs along the tree line," according to the Forbes article.

"The Ukrainian high-mobility artillery rocket system aimed from potentially dozens of miles away," the publication noted.

Forbes presented the conclusions of the 225th Air Assault Battalion regarding the significant losses of the Russian Armed Forces as a result of the HIMARS strike. The reasons for the success of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on this segment of the front are outlined as follows:

  • there was "thorough coordination" between the headquarters and the forward companies of the battalion with the artillery unit;
  • Russian troops continuously attempt to advance along the same roads leading to Sudzha;
  • the Russian Armed Forces deploy infantry units without support for their attacks;
  • enemy infantry units become particularly vulnerable when they cluster during an assault.

"It is worth noting that the most catastrophic attacks by Russia and North Korea in recent weeks, when they failed, resulted in hundreds of killed and wounded," Forbes concluded.

UAF Strike — What Happened Near Kursk

On January 24, the Center for Counteracting Disinformation reported on the specifics of the battles in the Kursk region. The center's report indicated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are managing to push the Russians back on certain sections of the front in this area. It also noted that the Russian plans were "disrupted" due to significant losses in personnel and equipment.

As a reminder, on January 26, DeepState analysts reported on the advancement of the Russian Armed Forces on the eastern front and the loss of Vremenka and Bolshaya Novoselka.
