Teacher and blogger from Kryvyi Rih, Volodymyr Tsoufal, demonstrated what an average Ukrainian teacher's salary can cover. He shared a video detailing the calculations on the social media platform TikTok.
The average salary for a teacher in Ukraine is 12,000 hryvnias. Renting a place costs about 5,000, and an additional 2,000 goes towards utility bills. This leaves approximately 167 hryvnias per day.
"Breakfast needs to be budget-friendly: eggs, a bit of bread, and tea, which costs me 40 hryvnias. It’s filling and straightforward. I drive to work, and the round-trip fare is 20 hryvnias. For lunch, I have soup and some bread at the cafeteria, totaling 60 hryvnias," Tsoufal explains.
Next, the blogger decided to grab a coffee for 40 hryvnias, then went to the store and bought groceries for dinner costing 100 hryvnias. He then tallies up his expenses, revealing that he exceeded his budget even while being frugal. In total, he spent 260 hryvnias in a day.
"A teacher's salary is all about the ability to save," he concluded.
It is worth noting that starting January 1, 2025, secondary school educators will receive a monthly supplement of 1,300 hryvnias. From September 1, this amount will increase to 2,600 hryvnias, although preschool educators will not receive this bonus.
Additionally, in Svalyava, in the Zakarpattia region, parents of students from a construction college clashed with teachers. The altercation stemmed from a conflict among the students.
The Ministry of Education recently stated that there is an excessive number of teachers in Ukraine. This factor, according to officials, is why specialists are receiving low salaries.
