The situation regarding the halt of funding for Ukrainian grant programs is yet another confirmation of the thesis that all processes in the country should be as independent and self-sufficient as possible.
Currently, Ukraine is reliant on foreign partners in nearly all areas: from military to social issues. One could argue that these conditions have developed and attribute it to the war. However, this dependency did not begin in 2022. It was quite convenient to accept grants or accumulate debts for future generations. Instead of genuinely investing in infrastructure and development, there has been a tendency to misappropriate these funds along the way.
It is essential to always consider the downside of foreign aid. Firstly, it often comes with the imposition of external interests and policies. When we receive weaponry, we may also be compelled to sit at the negotiation table, even against our wishes. If funding is provided for reforms, we may find ourselves creating gender policy representatives.
Moreover, this assistance could come to an abrupt end at any moment, leading to a complete collapse.
