Volodymyr Zelensky is prepared to exchange his presidency for Ukraine's membership in NATO and the conclusion of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Zelensky stated this during a press conference in London.
"As for stepping down — it won't be easy to replace me. It's not just about holding elections; they also need to ensure I don't get re-elected. That's a bit more complicated. It means they have to negotiate with me, and I said I'm willing to exchange for NATO. So, I've accomplished my goal. If NATO exists and the war is over, it means I've fulfilled my mission," Zelensky said.
He also mentioned that some "people" are attempting to influence Ukraine's decisions, noting that this contradicts democratic principles.
"It appears that people — let's not name their positions, but let's say citizens of other countries — are telling Ukrainians what kind of president they should have. Especially if these individuals hold official positions. Honestly, this looks unconstructive and undemocratic," Zelensky remarked.
At the same time, the President of Ukraine acknowledged that he might be uncomfortable for certain state leaders, particularly for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Although, I candidly say, perhaps this is a way out for everyone: both for Putin and for all, if I'm not as flexible as they claim. Well, yes, I’m exchanging for NATO, I'm being honest," Zelensky emphasized.
Let us remind you that during the same press conference, Vladimir Zelensky stated that there is still a long way to go before the war ends.
On March 2, Emmanuel Macron proposed to Ukraine to establish a ceasefire for a month.
