The lights have been lit on the main Christmas tree of the country in Kyiv, located at Sofiivska Square. This was reported by the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko.
"Today, following tradition — on St. Nicholas Day, the lights on the main Christmas tree of the country were illuminated at Sofiivska Square in the capital," the statement said.
He specified that the tree itself is artificial and stands 15 meters tall. According to Klitschko, the tree was installed and decorated using funds from patrons.
"The pure white color of the tree symbolizes the beginning of a bright and clean path, reminding us of the renewal brought by Christmas and the New Year," Klitschko noted.
The mayor of Kyiv emphasized that the tree is wrapped in two kilometers of light blue garland. The artificial tree is also adorned with two thousand turquoise ornaments.
"This symbolic design complements the majestic facade of St. Sophia Cathedral, creating a magical atmosphere," Klitschko highlighted.
He also mentioned that there will be a symbolic photo zone next to the tree called "Wings of the Phoenix."
As a reminder, on December 6, Christmas fairs started in Kyiv.
On December 4, the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" announced that sales of Christmas trees began in Ukraine. Foresters noted that the average price for a New Year tree standing 1 meter tall would start at 130 UAH.
