The current President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, is reportedly being urged to resign and agree to hold presidential elections that were originally scheduled for 2023 but postponed according to the Constitution. In exchange, Ukrainians might be promised a ceasefire and foreign troops along the frozen front line. The publication El Mundo reported on the proposals that Kyiv is believed to have received. The head of the Ukrainian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Oleksandr Merezhko, has denied such speculations.
Journalists conveyed information obtained from anonymous sources in "diplomatic circles." They did not clarify who these individuals are or whether they can be trusted. Sources claimed that for two consecutive weeks, "rumors" about a quick resolution to the war have been circulating within the government. To end the conflict, Ukraine is reportedly being asked to send President Zelensky to London and hold presidential elections. In return, Ukraine is allegedly promised a ceasefire, swift accession to the European Union, and troops from France and the UK. Foreign troops would be stationed along the frozen demarcation line to "ensure compliance with the ceasefire," as stated in the El Mundo article.
"The West is preparing a 'golden exile' for Volodymyr Zelensky in London, while in Ukraine, presidential elections expected in 2023 have been postponed due to the war. This move will be accompanied by a 'rapid' entry into the EU, economic aid for reconstruction, and the deployment of European peacekeeping forces," — journalists quoted an unknown source "from Kyiv."
The President of Ukraine and the presidential office have not reacted to the publication from the Spanish outlet. However, Oleksandr Merezhko, the head of the Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Interparliamentary Cooperation, responded. In an interview with "Radio Liberty," Merezhko stated that there are no rumors of a "exile" and that the statement from the anonymous El Mundo source is completely false. According to the MP, this is not merely fantasy but a Russian special operation aimed at destabilizing the situation in Ukraine.
"This is a disinformation campaign, as they say in IPSO. There is no basis for such rumors. It's just absurd. There's nothing to comment on," — the politician asserted.
According to the future representative of Trump regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, Keta Kellogg, Americans plan to force Ukraine to sit at the negotiating table with Russia and agree to a series of conditions. Among the conditions are an official refusal to join NATO for the next 20 years and a renunciation of territories occupied by Russians (almost one-fifth of the country). At the same time, Ukrainians are promised "security guarantees." In turn, the newly elected US president plans to pressure Russia: in one of his statements, Trump threatened that if the Kremlin rejected peace proposals, Ukraine would receive maximum weaponry for further combat.
Meanwhile, President Zelensky made a series of statements regarding NATO. The politician stated that Ukraine is prepared to join the alliance with its entire territory but commits not to fight for the return of occupied regions, opting instead for diplomatic means.
It is worth noting that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated the Kremlin's demands regarding the Russian language in Ukraine, a refusal of NATO, and the recognition of "territorial realities" in an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson. Meanwhile, the BBC showcased pages of the Budapest Memorandum, in which Russia, the USA, and the UK guaranteed Ukraine's security and territorial integrity.
