The weather in Ukraine over the next few days will be influenced by an anticyclone positioned over the country. As a result, dry weather with no precipitation is expected in most regions. Only in the eastern part of the country, snow is anticipated on Sunday, February 23, due to the influence of a cyclone from the east. This was reported by meteorologist Natalia Didenko on Friday, February 21.
According to Didenko, frosty conditions will persist in Ukraine for now. Nighttime temperatures will drop to -10...-17 degrees, while during the day, temperatures in most areas will range from -2...-7 degrees.
In the western regions, it will be significantly warmer — from -1 frost to +5 degrees.
In Kyiv, no precipitation is expected on Saturday and Sunday, February 22 and 23. Nighttime temperatures will decrease to -12...-14 degrees, while daytime temperatures will hover around -2...-4 degrees.
"A weakening of the frosts and a gradual increase in air temperature in Ukraine is expected starting from February 25. Spring is already giving us a hint," Didenko noted.
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warned that due to the intensification of ice processes on February 20-21, sharp fluctuations in water levels are possible, although without the threat of negative consequences. In the rivers of the Pripyat sub-basin in Volyn, Rivne, and Zhytomyr regions, the water level may vary by 0.1-0.5 m per day. In the Upper Dnieper and Desna rivers (Chernihiv and Kyiv regions), these fluctuations will be 0.1-0.4 m.
From February 21 to 23, due to the drop in temperature, active ice formation is expected on the Dniester section from Zalishchiky to the upper reaches of the Dniester Reservoir (Ternopil and Chernivtsi regions). This may lead to the formation of ice jams and sharp changes in water levels by 0.3-1.0 m. At the same time, there is no threat of negative consequences.
Anticyclonic weather and low temperatures contribute to the intense freezing of rivers and reservoirs, which may result in the formation of ice cover. Meteorologists caution that the ice cover remains unstable, making it dangerous to walk on or be near the ice.
As a reminder, meteorologist Natalia Didenko reported that on February 21, the weather in Ukraine will be dry and cold, with daytime temperatures ranging from -1...-6 degrees.
