In Romania, near the border with Ukraine, the bodies of two deceased men were discovered. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
0 1 2The agency stated that the body of a Ukrainian was found 200 meters from the border. He had illegally crossed the border and perished in the mountains. Hypothermia is cited as the cause of death.
The Border Guard Service noted that the Ukrainian's companions were rescued during a challenging 22-hour operation. Due to bad weather, aviation could not be deployed, so two groups of rescuers ascended the mountain to reach the individuals.
Another body was discovered in the Tisza River near the Romanian locality of Kimpulung la Tisa. The circumstances and identity of the deceased are being investigated.
The Border Guard Service warned Ukrainians against attempting to cross the border illegally.
It is worth recalling that back in 2023, the Border Guard Service reported that men of conscription age were attempting to illegally leave the country. The agency emphasized that fugitives would be returned to Ukraine. The Border Guard Service is actively cooperating with EU countries and Moldova, so in any case, men will face legal consequences.
Subsequently, in May 2024, a representative of the Border Guard Service noted that due to the imposition of martial law in Ukraine and restrictions on the exit of Ukrainian men abroad, the number of tragic incidents at the border has increased. The highest number of fatalities among conscription-age Ukrainians occurs while drowning in the Tisza River.
Later, the agency reported that border guards detect at least 5 attempts by Ukrainians to swim across the Tisza each week. The river is known for its cold waters, yet individuals attempt to cross it even in winter.
