The Pavlograd District Court has issued a verdict against a man who struck a woman at a pedestrian crossing. This was reported by "Vідомо" citing "Independent Portal of Pavlograd".
The fatal accident occurred in September 2024. The driver of a Volkswagen Passat was traveling along Dniprovskaya Street at a speed of at least 50 km/h and did not see the woman at the intersection with Panchenko Street (Dobrolyubova), hitting her. She died at the scene from severe injuries (skull, spine, rib, pelvis, and shin fractures, along with ruptured internal organs).
The driver's actions were classified under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as a violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by a person in control of a vehicle, resulting in the death of the victim.
During the trial, the man explained that he "was driving at about 50 km/h on Dniprovskaya Street in Pavlograd from the direction of Donetsk towards Dnipro. There were no obstacles, and he did not see the pedestrian because it was dark and there was no light. He only realized something had happened after the impact."
The accused paid 410,000 hryvnias to the deceased woman's grandson.
The court found the man guilty. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison and banned from driving for 3 years, but this punishment was replaced with a less severe penalty of 2 years of probation.
